Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park

With its imposing ancient monolith at its center, Chimney Rock Park is a naturalist’s delight. Views from the park’s “chimney” provide a sweeping, panoramic vista spanning 17 miles. The park has miles of trails of varying degrees of difficulty from novice to adventuresome and features beautiful hardwood forests, a rich bio-diverse landscape including rare and endangered species of flora and beautiful Hickory Nut Falls, a dramatic waterfall which featured prominently in the 1980s film The Last of the Mohicans starring Daniel Day Lewis.

Laurel and rhododendron thickets dot the park and provide camouflage for native white-tailed deer and wild turkeys. The park also features a unique trail for younger hikers, the Great Woodland Adventure trail, with a dozen discovery stations offering experiential learning and whimsical sculptures. Fox Mountain Guides also offers a daring alternative to hiking – rock climbing.
